Imagine a highway with no speed limit. Feeling the wind flowing through your hair as you’re driving hundreds of kilometers an hour. Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Nope, it’s real! The autobahn highway system in Germany is famous for having no speed limit. You can drive as fast as you’d like on it. It’s not a free for all, certain sections of it do have some manner of posted speed limits – you wouldn’t want to be going at extreme speeds through particularly dangerous conditions. Certain accident prone or under construction areas do limit your speed, as do urban sections so that you don’t crash into someone’s house. However, there are still thousands of kilometers of highway that have no speed limit. Be sure to wear your seatbelt!
But what is there to do once you’re done driving? Well, there are quite a few places are definitely worth a visit. If you’re vising from North America, European architecture may be of interest to you. Many of the cities were built before cars were a central aspect of city planning. Take a look at how it differs from what you’re used to. Some of the streets are narrower and not designed for being driven on, and houses are closer together. There are many historical churches and chapels, including the Cologne Cathedral. If you’re feeling particularly medieval, there are castles you can visit such as the Neuschwanstein. This castle is actually what Disney castles are based on! It is definitely interesting to see how all of these locations differ from what we are used to back here in North America, and if that is something you would like to see then we definitely recommend it!
The capital city of Germany is Berlin, and there is no wall stopping you from shipping your car there. However, there both water and land that may impede your progress. Berlin is landlocked, and across the ocean from North America. You would have to get your car shipped across the ocean first, and then either you can have it shipped to Berlin or it can be picked up and driven there across the autobahn. Whichever way you choose to go, be sure to check out the Brandenburg Gate when you get there!
If you’re feeling peckish, there are a lot of delicacies you can sample. Eat a hamburger in Hamburg, or a frankfurter in Frankfurt. There are many kinds of German sausages including bratwurst and knockwurst. Germans love their coffee, and if you visit during Oktoberfest you will definitely be offered a beer.
Whether you’re just there to drive around or wish to experience a new country and new culture, we definitely recommend shipping your car to Germany. Enjoy the architecture, experience the culture, and drive faster than you’ve ever driven before. There’s truly something for everyone, no matter what you may be looking for.
